FAQs
Is it appropriate to invite along a partner, spouse, friend, family member?

Because this retreat is meant to be a time for you to focus on your own writing, as well as build your literary community we strongly discourage anyone from bringing a companion.

Is San Miguel safe?

Absolutely! San Miguel has a big ex-pat community. As in any city, it's worth making sure your wallet and other valuables are not out for the taking, but otherwise it is very safe.

How do I get around the city?

San Miguel is very walkable--though with all the cobblestones, it's a good idea to bring appropriate footwear. Ubers are also plentiful...and cheap! And there are plenty of taxis.

How are meals handled?

Included in your room at Casa de la Cuesta is a sumptuous two-course breakfast cooked to order; yoghurt, fruit, granola, followed by a hot dish.

Lunches are on your own, and there are many wonderful small restaurants and cafes within walking distance of our hotel.

What if I want to arrive early or stay on for the writers conference?

Easily done! You can book extra nights at Casa de la Cuesta directly once you are accepted into the retreat, or you can move over to the conference hotel, Hotel Real de Minas

What's the weather like?

San Miguel is considered high desert. Temperatures in February range from the low 80s in the daytime to the low 50s (or even high 40s) at night. It rarely rains in February in San Miguel.

Where will I be able to write?

Since we take over all of Casa de la Cuesta, you are invited to settle yourself at a table (or lounge chair) in all the hotel's public areas, which include a terrace with fabulous views. Additionally, there is a sweet little library nearby with plenty of tables for writing. And San Miguel is chockfull of little cafes.
