Writing
retreat
in
San Miguel

February 5-11 or february 16-22, 2026

Join LitCamp founder, Janis Cooke Newman and 8 other writers for this 7-day, 6 night retreat in the beautiful, Colonial hill town of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico.

Each day, Janis will give a one hour craft talk, tailored to the individual projects the group is working on.

At the end of the day, we'll gather on the hotel's upper terrace (see view above) to watch the sunset, sip tequila or beer, and share the day's writing.

Afterward, we'll head out to dinner at one of Janis' favorite San Miguel restaurants (optional).

In addition, Janis will meet one-on-one with each writer for up to an hour to talk craft, plot, publishing, whatever.

The rest of the day is yours to write, explore San Miguel (fabulous shopping!), or just sit on the terrace and relax.

These retreats have been scheduled to coincide with the San Miguel Writers Conference & Literary Festival, which takes place February 11 - 15.

Depending on which dates you choose, you can either stay on for the conference, or arrive early to attend.

Festival speakers will be announced in August, 2025. Get more info on the festival here

Our accommodations will be at the pretty boutique hotel, Casa de la Cuesta, within walking distance of all San Miguel has to offer.

Casa de la Cuesta has only 8 rooms, and we've booked all of them for our writers. So we'll have the place to ourelves

Each room at Casa de la Cuesta is unique ,and filled with local folk art. Plus, there are lots of lovely public areas where you can sit and write, or just look at the view.

The hotel also features a mask museum and hosts local artists in residence.

You can view rooms 1 -7 here.

You can view room 8 here.
